Each morning, he reviews reports from offshore teams, including timesheets and health and safety reports, before conducting a conference call with offshore representatives to discuss progress and concerns. The remainder of his day is spent in meetings and reviewing project documents, requiring strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Deon holds two post-secondary diplomas: a Diploma of Industrial Engineering Technology from the College of the North Atlantic and a Diploma of Technology in Marine Engineering Systems Design from the Marine Institute. These programs provided a solid foundation in advanced math, physics, and chemistry, equipping him for a successful career in oil and gas. He obtained his engineering license from the Professional Engineers and Geologists of Newfoundland and Labrador, further solidifying his qualifications.
